Phaeng Waterfall
A shaded waterfall in the forest, inland. A ride across the island, and a cool swim when the water is running. Phangan Elephant Sanctuary is in this forest, by the waterfall. Book the visit with them. It is not included with the villa.
The walk
The lower fall is a short path in the forest, about fifteen to thirty minutes. The longer loop is about 3 kilometres, climbs about 290 metres, and takes around an hour and a half.
The view
Two falls in the trees, Phaeng Noi and Phaeng Yai. A side trail climbs to a rock lookout over the island. Phangan Elephant Sanctuary is in this forest, by the waterfall.
Best time
The water is stronger from about May to October. After rain the rocks are slippery, and from October to December heavy rain can flood the paths. Go in the morning.
